Matty's Iced Pour Over Method

With the warmer weather on its way, it’s time for more iced coffee in all of our lives. While I love a good cold brew, it’s not always ideal to wait the 12-24 hours it takes for it to be brewed to perfection. So if you’ve got the same gear that I mentioned in my Brewing Method post or a pour over kit of your choice, I got you!

To start, you’ll need your pour over brewer, a scale, a cup of your choice, a kettle, and (most importantly) ice! I still use a 1:15 ratio of coffee to water with my Kalita Wave, typically 20 grams of coffee to 300 grams of water. But instead of using 300 grams of hot water in the brewing process, I’ll use 100 grams of ice and 200 grams of hot water.

After wetting your filter and putting ice in your cup, hit the coffee with 3 times the amount of water (20g of coffee, put 60g of water) for the bloom. After 30 seconds of bloom time, I’ll typically add the remaining 140g of water and let it brew. Once the brew is done, add as much ice as you’d like and you’ve got a killer cup of iced coffee!
