Santa Monica Neighborhood Guide

Do you already know and love Santa Monica like we do? Or do you just picture the ferris wheel on the pier and beach cruiser bikes? We love those, too, but Santa Monica is so much more nowadays, a dreamy beachfront destination and perfect neighborhood to settle in for an afternoon of coffee + carousing.

In fact, we like SaMo so much, we have two cafes there: one on Main Street and a brand new one on busy Montana Avenue. Here are a few of our favorite spots in the community that we recommend, fueled by your GGET coffee, of course.

Burro

Burro is located at 1533 Montana Ave, just a few blocks from GGET

Burro - Montana Ave

A gift shop that's both curated and quirky, you'll find just what you're looking for at Burro. Whether you seek adorable tea towels & cards for a gifting occasion or need a smudge stick for someone who's going through harder times, Burro's got you. They focus on featuring small businesses and makers and showcasing a myriad of gifts, trinkets, stationary and wearables. Don't just take our word for it, stop by and peruse at your leisure.

What to get: Vegan leather journal to store your ideas

Margo's

From vegan comfort bites to killer cocktails, Margo's is one of the liveliest spots on Montana Ave (due, in part, to having one of the rare full bars in the neighborhood). This rebooted restaurant from the former owners of OP Cafe has been applauded for its plant-based focus. It's also said to be the spot to look out for celeb sightings - or just some fun people watching.

What to get: The "About Damn Thyme" cocktail with gin, chartreuse, and thyme-lavender bitters

Go Greek

Go Greek in Santa Monica is located at 1431 Ocean Ave

Go Greek

Here for healthy? Time for a treat? Somewhere in between the two? We're all over Go Greek's dedication to everything Greek yogurt, from savory bowls to smoothies to a delicious take on classic froyo. Their yogurt flavors are an adventure unto themselves, from hazelnut to rose to blueberry lavender. And if you're going froyo, yes—they've got allll the toppings.

What to order: Seasonal frozen yogurt with fresh blackberries, chocolate power chews, and a Greek biscuit.

The Misfit

Riffing on a classic tavern and stylish gastropub, paired with a modern Santa Monica vibe, The Misfit boasts the best happy hour in town and we won't dare to disagree. Get a bunch of plates to share with friends - and don't miss out on their Crispy Brussel Sprouts or Hand Cut Kennebec Fries. In true LA fashion, food sensitivities are more than accommodated here, especially if you don't ride the gluten train. Did we mention their gluten-free Misfit Mac & Cheese? Now we're drooling - see you there!

What to get: Everything above, plus the Shrimp & Striped Bass Ceviche and a bottle of their Malbec

Misfit

The Misfit is located at 225 Santa Monica Boulevard

Los Liones

Los Liones Canyon Trail

One of LA County's most cherished hiking trails, Los Liones offers sweeping views of Santa Monica, the mountains, the Pacific, and even Catalina Island on a clear day. It's a steep ascent up the Santa Monica Mountains, but well worth reaching the top. If you need a photo opp, this is it. Find the trailhead just on the outskirts of Santa Monica, near the Getty Villa.
