ABOUT BLASINA MARTINEZ
While the corn and beans grown on her modest, half-hectare farm sustained Blasina and her family, ten years ago she decided to add a small plot of land to grow coffee at the recommendation of a neighbor. Blasina and her family have been producing coffee for the last six years, though her efforts to produce higher quality, specialty-grade coffee are more recent.
We met Blasina through Proyecto Cabañas, a program connecting the Cabañas mill, where Blasina works, with Exportadora San Vicente—the exporting arm of Beneficio San Vicente, an award-winning mill in Santa Barbara that supports many of the Honduran producers we partner with at GGET.
The Proyecto Cabañas program was built to allow producers like Blasina to find higher prices through better picking and processing. Although this is the second year we’ve pur-chased her coffee, this is the first year we’ve been able to separate Blasina’s coffee as a microlot.
