Neighborhood Guide - Highland Park

Sure, we're biased—we think going out for awesome coffee and food can make a whole day, frankly. But we choose where we put our Go Get Em Tiger coffee bars for good reasons: we seek out vibrant, amazing neighborhoods where you can wander and get a real feel for the community. And while we know a lot of our customers already have their routines, there's so much to explore in LA we thought we'd make up some guides to our fave spots near each of our cafés to allow y'all to be tourists in your own city. (Or hey, it's also ok if you're here from out of town. We're excited to have you.)

Our first GGET Neighborhood Guide takes us to scenic Highland Park, Los Angeles.

Northeast LA's Highland Park has experienced rapid—like whoa!—change in recent years, but remains one of LA's oldest, most eclectic neighborhoods. Everyone from Marc Maron to Skrillex to Billie Eilish to Beck have called this area home, and it's also home to some of the city's most beloved restaurants, museums, landmarks, shops, and outdoor chill-out spots. Situated just up the 110N from DTLA (or take the Gold line there) and nestled just south of Pasadena, we love this part of town for its totally unique vibe and great setting amid the hills. We opened GGET Highland Park here on Figueroa St. in the fall of 2018, and are so glad to be here!

Some (but definitely not all) of our favorite spots include:

El Huarache Azteca

A York Blvd staple for more than 25 years, El Huarache is devoted to authentic Mexico-City-style fare, utilizing top quality ingredients. They're open from breakfast to dinnertime, so no matter what time you come through, they've got you.

What to order: Super Huarache Pambazo

Goldburger

This award-winning smashburger spot opened by longtime friend of GGET and one time coffee guy Allen Yelent became an instant classic when it opened in 2020 after a long run as an acclaimed pop-up. We love this spot for the great vibe, serving grass-fed beef in classic California burger style. (Fun fact: our very own culinary champ, Brent, spent some time slinging burgers with Allen in the early pop-up days.)

What to order: Goldburger or LA Special

The Hermosillo

Highland Park Brewery is, in our opinion, brewing some of the best beer in LA. The Hermosillo, located within the brewery, essentially functions as HPB’s taproom, boasting an array of HPB beers, guest beers, and natural wines. The food is small but mighty, and equally delicious whether you're pairing it with booze or just stopping by for a bite!

Sunbeam Vintage

We could spend all day inside the gorgeous Sunbeam Vintage, ogling Mid-Century Vintage & Modern furniture and fantasizing about our next apartment makeover. From stylish seating to sweet-ass credenzas to those little touches that pull everything together, the taste of the Latinx womxn who own Sunbeam is just...chef's kiss.

What to order: Anything you can fit into your home, of course.

Ernest E. Debs Park

We love to stretch our legs (and our dogs' legs, too, of course...) in this lovely neighborhood park with its beautiful 5+ mile loop on old ranch land in Arroyo Seco. It's even got fishing in Debs Lake, if that's your line. Grab something delicious from GGET or one of our neighbors and head on over for a picnic, you won't regret it.
