Kanzu, Rwanda

A favorite of our repeat East African offerings, this year's Kanzu is among the best harvests we've ever tasted: sweet + tropical and like honey on the tongue. We're in love.

About Rwanda Kanzu

Fruity, vibrant Rwandan coffees are sought-after gems in the coffee world, and this lot is a credit to the continued improvement and meticulous operation of the Kanzu washing station—the latest example being a new processing step that's all but eliminated potato defect. The recipient of both post-war-and-genocide aid and expert agricultural guidance, Kanzu has fueled the Rwandan coffee renaissance with stunning, complex coffees like these.

Sweet Harmony

Situated at 1900 meters in the Nyamasheke district among a biodiverse vista of cassava, bananas, sugar cane, coffee, and more, the Kanzu washing station is known for its thoughtful processing and delicious coffee output. Coffee is dry fermented before full mucilage removal, enhancing fruit notes, before soaking and drying on raised beds. Wastewater here is treated with Effective Microorganisms for clean return to downstream communities, just one of the many ways this special mill operates in harmony with its landscape.
