Luis began as a picker, harvesting his neighbor's coffee until one day he arranged to work towards purchase of his own plot. In 1994, he became full owner of La Perla del Otün, a now five-hectare farm he works with his family near Pitalito, in the coffee-famous Huila region of Colombia. His pickers are quality-focused, trained by the Manos Al Grano project, and provided a steady salary.
