A Family Affair

Fredy Bautista started his farm, Solangel (after his son Angel) after seeing the success his brother, Neptaly, had in specialty coffee. When we began with Fredy, he only had 1/4 manzana (about 3/4 of a hectare) of land in production, but has planted more each year, and now has at least 2 manzanas in full swing. Fredy and Neptaly share processing facilities, like tiled fermentation tanks and parabolic dryers, as well.

Misty Mountain Magic

In Northwestern Honduras, located in the mountains overlooking Lake Yojoa, cool mists contribute to long coffee maturation times, allowing for unique flavor development in coffees like Fredy’s. And like Fredy, many farmers in Santa Barbara also work with Beneficio San Vincente, a mill and exporter that’s been the catalyst for the region's rise in the specialty coffee consciousness. Solangel is located on a slope opposite the lake and shielded from winds—making it a lovely spot to grow Pacas.
