ABOUT GUJI
The Guji washing station was built in 2013 and has been dedicated to improving quality and creating a positive impact on the surrounding community and environment ever since. The latest advancement in its operations is the installation of a Penagos pulping machine, a mechanical de-pulper that significantly reduces the amount of water needed to process the coffee. After the mucilage is removed, the beans are fermented for 9 to 12 days. During this period, quality control managers monitor moisture content and sort the beans to eliminate any remaining defects, resulting in incredibly uniform lots.
Beyond processing coffee for export, the washing station serves as a vital community hub. It provides farmers with agronomy education, emphasizing organic practices, shade growing, and regenerative crop techniques. Farmers can also access interest-free advance payments and logistical support for collecting their coffee cherry. Additionally, the washing station contributes to local infrastructure by helping renovate the nearby elementary school. These efforts strengthen the community, sustain the profession, and enhance the quality of the coffee.
