Due to Colombia’s proximity to the equator, there is no single growing season for the country. Instead, regions within the country harvest more or less throughout the year at different times, depending on elevation and a variety of other factors within an area’s microclimate. This is also part of what gives Colombia such a wide variety of coffee flavor profiles within its boundaries. In Acevedo, there are essentially two harvests that happen between July and February: a “fly crop” or secondary harvest, and the main harvest. Think appetizer and main course. The fly crop is generally smaller, but it could easily be the better of the two—and vice versa. 

Last year, we purchased lots from both harvests. This year, we only bought the fly crop. Luz’s coffee and reputation have grown tremendously over the last couple of years. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to witness! This lot is 100% Pink Bourbon, offering a lightly fruited profile and subtle tropical notes.
